President Nelson’s “Prophetic Plea” to Study the Book of Mormon by the End of 2018

While speaking during the Women’s Session of the October 2018 General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, President Russell M. Nelson gave the following “prophetic plea” to study the entire Book of Mormon before the end of 2018:

“I invite you to read the Book of Mormon between now and the end of the year. As impossible as that may seem with all you are trying to manage in your life, if you will accept this invitation with full-purpose of heart the Lord will help you find a way to achieve it. And, as you prayerfully study, I promise that the heavens will open for you; the Lord will bless you with increased inspiration and revelation. As you read, I would encourage you to mark each verse that speaks of or refers to the Savior. Then, be intentional about talking of Christ, rejoicing in Christ, and preaching of Christ with your families and friends. You and they will be drawn closer to the Savior through this process, and changes–even miracles–will begin to happen.” (Quote taken from the live version; printed statement may vary slightly when published.)

You may have noticed a specific study-assignment that was given by President Nelson:

As you read, I would encourage you to mark each verse that speaks of or refers to the Savior. Then, be intentional about talking of Christ, rejoicing in Christ, and preaching of Christ with your families and friends. You and they will be drawn closer to the Savior through this process, and changes–even miracles–will begin to happen.”

This was something that I did as I completed my most recent study of the Book of Mormon during the 2018 #BOMTC. If you would like to learn a bit more about this and print a helpful study chart of your own, please use the following link: #BOMTC “Seek This Jesus”

I recommend learning more about how searching for the Savior in the Book of Mormon can have an impact on your life by reviewing the following two resources:

I hope that everyone will accept this inspired invitation from our living prophet and experience the promised blessings offered by the Lord (see D&C 1:38).

Interestingly, by using the same 85-day study schedule from the Book of Mormon Translation Challenge, you can study the entire Book of Mormon by the end of 2018.

I have not created any Google calendars to go along with this challenge, but you can adapt the study charts provided by the #BOMTC to pace yourself.

Here are two other resources that have some helpful study schedules:

I will not be sponsoring any type of study group for this wonderful opportunity that our beloved prophet has asked us to take, but I will be studying with you 🙂 I know the Book of Mormon IS “Another Testament of Jesus Christ”!

As a side note, and for those that would like to receive the promised blessings of President Nelson’s 4-part “prophetic plea”, here is a little reminder that was posted to President Nelson’s official Facebook page:

#BOMTC: T-Minus 10 Days and Counting

T-Minus 10 Days and Counting to the Launch of the 2016 #BOMTC

T-Minus 10 Days and Counting to the Launch of the 2016 #BOMTC

Because there are critical events that take place after the initial countdown for a rocket launch begins, NASA commonly uses the term “T-minus” at key times during preparation for launch. The “T minus Time” is the time before launch. For example, “T minus 9 minutes and counting” means that there is 9 minutes until the planned time of launch. The last ten seconds are traditionally counted down aloud.

Similarly, at this time each year, preparations are well underway for the launch of the annual Book of Mormon Translation Challenge (#BOMTC). And just as the last 10 seconds are usually counted down aloud leading up to the launch of a rocket, I like to prepare the #BOMTC readers for the launch of our study challenge by counting down the last 10 days to the launch of the Book of Mormon Translation Challenge..

There have already been important events leading up to “T minus 10 days and counting”. For example at “T minus 12 days and counting” we celebrated “Book of Mormon Day” (#BoMDay). And there are some more important events to come in the #BOMTC countdown:

  • This year, at “T minus 5 (and 4) days and counting” we will participate in the 186th Annual General Conference of the Church, which will most likely include invitations to study and learn from the Book of Mormon.
  • “T minus 2 days and counting” marks the day that Oliver Cowdery first met Joseph Smith on April 5, 1829, just two days prior to beginning his role as scribe for Joseph during the majority of the translation process.
  • One of the most critical events in the #BOMTC countdown this year will occur at “T minus 7 days and counting”, on March 31. That is the time at which we will begin to invite our friends to prepare to join us for the 2016 Book of Mormon Translation Challenge. A Facebook events page will be created, and you can invite all of your friends to join you in this year’s study of the Book of Mormon. The hashtag #BOMTC will be used to support readers on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.

NOTE: No matter where someone is currently studying in the Book of Mormon, they can still join us! No one need start over because the challenge is the same, although the starting point/chapter may be different. One would simply begin their study from where they currently are in the Book of Mormon and continue to read until they return to that same place at the end of the 85 day challenge. (For example, if I am studying in Mosiah 1 on April 7, when the challenge begins, then I would just continue to read from that point on and finish on June 30, by studying Words of Mormon.)

I challenge you to use the next 10 days to prepare yourself, your schedule, your family, and your friends for the 2016 BOOK OF MORMON TRANSLATION CHALLENGE!

T minus 10 days and counting…
